The 2nd annual Shoe City Open took place at the Venice Skatepark last weekend. With the help of the VSA and sponsors such as Ezekiel Clothing and Vitamin Water, the Shoe City Open was able to introduce extreme sports to many disabled children and young adults. Venice locals came out to volunteer their time and share their passion with people who never would have been able to experience the thrill of riding a skatepark without the event. A few professional skateboarders made it out to the beach as well, including Scott Oster, Bennett Harada, and Christian Hosoi. The highlight of the event was most certainly the smiles on the faces of everyone involved, from the participants to the volunteers. Saturday, June 25th was a day to remember for all who were involved.
_______________
1. David Fowler and Jim Muir, Venice local legends, giving a disabled teenager a push to the top of the quarter pipe. The volunteers were working very hard to ensure a good time for all participants.
2. Christian Hosoi, Venice native and world famous professional skateboarder, made his way up from Huntington beach to put on a demo for all.
3. One of the many participants executing a perfect smith grind in the deep end of the snake run.
4. Going upside down during a hand plant in the deep end. This participant gives Jesse Billauer’s organization, Life Rolls On, true meaning to its name.
5. Volunteer Steve Primo wasn’t afraid to get down and dirty to show everyone a great time last Saturday.
