Sunny Bak premiered Beastie Boys at 57 Market St. In celebration of the Beastie Boys’ release of their new album, Hot Sauce Committee Pt. 2, renowned rock and celebrity photographer Sunny Bak featured never-before-seen images from her time photographing the Beastie Boys in the 1980s. Bak began her career documenting inside parties at New York’s Studio 54 and over the years has captured portraits of dozens of stars of both movies and music. In the 80s, she became friends with the then-unknown Beastie Boys. Her images show a young, mischievous trio in Hollywood, hanging from the Palladium marquee, posing in Manhattan, and hanging out in Bak’s New York studio with producer Rick Rubin. Her most notable photo was used on their album “Licensed to Ill.” A limited edition of signed and numbered prints will be available for purchase, and Bak will be raffling off a pair of rare Converse Sneakers featuring the Beastie Boys photos, which will benefit Prop 8 films, a nonprofit creating a documentary about the same sex marriage debate. Street artist El Faton, photographer Joe Ravetz, artist Bobbi Bennett and Nic Adams also showed work at the Gallery. For more of Sunny Bak, visit www.sunnybak.com
