The Townhouse Cocktails at 52 Windward Ave was established back in 1915 and has gone through many changes in it’s day. Now in 2011 it’s taking root of it’s heritage and bringing back that feel of those long ago yester-years with a burlesque act with a modern twist and grine to it. See http://www.westlandtraveler.com/ca/venice/townhouse/ to find out more about the Townhouse bar at Venice Beach.
Most locals remember Frank Bennett running the Townhouse for years. The new owner, Louie Ryan has fully restored the basement of the Townhouse Bar which was an actual Speakeasy during prohibition. Ships brought liquor down from Canada which anchored off shore and then smuggled the booze through secret tunnels under the streets of Venice.
