Venice Paparazzi was on the scene at Danny’s during the final weekend of business on Nov. 19 & 20, 2016.
After a decade of fun, Danny’s closed for good on Nov. 20, 2016. Almost the entire neighborhood hung out one final time to say good bye to this iconic local spot. Folks watched the last live music show, gazed upon the murals and Venice museum artifacts, and partied with the fantastic staff one final time. View event pics below!
Here is the Nov. 11th message from owners Daniel Samakow & James’ Evan.
This election reminded us that change is the only constant and sometimes it is both unexpected and not what we’d like. Over 10 years ago, we started Danny’s to connect the Venice community and visitors to the rich history that is the heritage of Venice, connect visitors and locals to each other and connect families and friends to excellent American fare, music and great times. We believe we have done all that. In addition, Danny’s helped continue the revitalization of Venice. Among many of our proud achievements was that we were part of the installation of the Venice sign and subsequent Holiday lighting events; helped start the Venice Art Crawl; helped spawn the Neptune Festival; supported Venice Mardi Gras, Venice’s first Pride event and many other local groups and good causes- in short we contributed to the general improvement of our neighborhood.
As we are all aware, the restaurant business and Venice have undergone numerous changes in the last several years. Increases in food, labor, insurance, security, rent and other costs have made operating more expensive. Danny’s, like other restaurants in Venice and elsewhere, has experienced these rising costs. Although we took steps to minimize them, at a certain point, it was no longer viable to remain open. Thus, it is with a heavy heart and great sadness that we have reached the extremely difficult decision to close Danny’s.
We thank Dionne, Ravi and our amazing team, in the past and now, for the hard work they did to make Danny’s a hospitable destination in Venice. We love them. We thank our customers and everyone who supported us for making us a part of Venice for 10 years; a long, long run in this business. We love you too.
Change is inevitable and it can ultimately lead to good. As a community and as a country, we all need to decide what kind of place we want to live in and make change toward those goals. We are committed to this principal. We are part of Venice. We will continue working with this community as we all move forward together.
Thank you again Venice and our team for 10 amazing years.
With deepest gratitude,
Danny and James

Here is a message from Manager Ravi Kristin. “Last night, Danny’s closed. Between being a customer at Danny’s Deli and then working for the place, I had 6+ good years. The people in our Mardi Gras crew and many more reached out to me and will always be my friends. I don’t know what is in the future for either me or the empty rooms now at 23 Windward, But if there is a place for me in Venice to reach out once more to the community, I will reach with both arms to continue our culture. THANK YOU to everybody. If it wasn’t for you, I would not have had such a great life.”
