A LITTLE BIT OF VENICE HISTORY: The Venice Nude Beach – It was the Summer of ’74. Hey, no surprise since that was the year of the now cult classics “Foxy Brown” and, ahem, “Flesh Gordon”. Once a few free spirits tossed off their suits it became a pretty popular idea – very Venice. The beach radios were blaring classic kitch like “Kung Fu Fighting”, BTO’s “Taking Care Of Business”, and the silky basso profundo of Barry White himself. Once the word got out however it became “creepsville”. As this newsreel photo shows, the place was suddenly packed with sex-starved strollers failing to look casual. The City Council ordered a cover-up clause the nude beach was no more. Courtesy:Venice Heritage Foundation.”Envisioning a Venice History Museum” www.VeniceHeritageMuseum.org
