On Wed, Oct. 24th, 2012 The Venice Chamber of Commerce presented their monthly mixer at the landmark Venice Beach Suites & Hotel, on the Venice Boardwalk, where they honored one hundred years of stories, legacies and history as the ‘Potter’ celebrates its centennial.
The Potter was built by J.D. Armstrong in a five-month process that made use of over 290,000 bricks. The location was key to The Potter’s initial success, as it was built across from Abbot Kinney’s Plunge, a central point in his visionary “Venice of America.” Over the years the The Potter has endured many economic and cultural cycles along with Venice; surviving the Great Depression, fostering the Beat Generation and bearing witness to the birth of skateboarding, all the while doing its part in attracting millions of tourists, artists and beach-goers to this vibrant and eclectic community.
The Potter – or in recent years as Venice Beach Suites & Hotel – has frequently appeared in the media, most recently as the primary location of the music video for “Favorite Song” by Colbie Caillat and most prominently in the title sequence and as a recurring set location of the television show “NCIS: LA”.
The Potter’s amazing history is reflected on the walls of Venice Beach Suites and Hotel where it houses the oldest original operating ‘bird cage’ elevator in Venice. The hotel boasts beautiful ocean-front views with in-suite kitchens in all of the rooms.
Additional highlights included: The Venice Historical Society unveiled a special plaque, a boardwalk entertainer, special appearances by Charlie Chaplin , commemorative gifts for all guests, and food by Whole Foods
