Recent event covered: 12.17.10  Knockout’s for Girls and Girl in the Ring Holiday Benefit

KnockOuts For Girls (KO4Gs) charity hosted  a Holiday Benefit for KO4Gs programs  along with Jill Morley’s groundbreaking documentary film on female boxers, “Girl in the Ring” on December 17th, at DAP Studios.  This boxing-themed holiday party was complete with a red carpet by Party by 5, DJ, photo booth with boxing and holiday props with  Venice Paparazzi, AMA liquor, a Beer Garden by Blue Dog Beer Tavern, complimentary chocolates by Medtz Confections, Alka Power Water, Mountain Valley Spring Water,  and boxing celebrities (Lucia Rjiker, LA Matadors, Dallas Malloy.   Barbie’s Q Foodtruck was also parked outside donating a percentage of proceeds to this event.  Proceeds from this event went towards:  – Christmas gifts on a wish list for orphans at Hillsides Foster Home , more assistance for the boxing program for at-risk girls, and finishing funds for Jill Morley’s “Girl in the Ring,” a documentary film about empowering women who use boxing to overcome adversity.

KnockOuts For Girls is a 501 (C)(3) non-profit organization that puts on female boxing events to raise money to grant empowering, confidence building, educational, encouraging and inspiring wishes (using boxing as a main focus) that will enrich the lives of deserving girls and impact their lives in a positive way.

Jill Morley, in addition to teaching boxing, is an accomplished documentary filmmaker.  Her newest project  is the documentary film, “Girl In The Ring,” which sensitively captures the adversity female boxers face, while telling a larger story about abuse, trauma, sexism and healing.  Morley’s previous documentary, “Stripped,” ran on the Sundance Channel and won Best Documentary at the Women’s International Film Festival in Sydney. Her short, “Eye Poppin,” premiered at the AFI Film Festival.  A contributing writer to several periodicals including The Village Voice, Bust Magazine, and The New York Press, Morley also produced radio documentaries for NPR. She was a producer/correspondent for Michael Moore’s “The Awful Truth.”  Morley wrote and performed the critically acclaimed play , “True Confessions of a Go-Go Girl,” which was published in The Best Women’s Plays of 1998, ran Off-Broadway for several years and was made into a Lifetime Movie of the Week.
