The Venice Chamber of Commerce is bringing the “The Wall That Heals” to Windward Plaza in Venice, California during the first week in March 2016. The wall is scheduled to arrive on Wednesday, March 2nd at approximately 11:30 am by way of an escort honor guard and the exhibit will be on display through Sunday morning, March 6th. Setting up is expected to take approximately 4-6 hours. There will be a docent orientation at 6:00pm on Wednesday, March 2nd and a brief ceremony is scheduled for Friday March 4th. Councilman Mike Bonin and State Senator Ben Allen will be part of Friday’s special program that is scheduled for 10:30 am.

The Venice Chamber of Commerce is bringing The Wall that Heals to Windward Plaza in Venice to raise awareness about the city’s increased efforts to provide housing for homeless veterans. George Francisco, Vice President of the Venice Chamber of Commerce said, “The Wall’s visit to Venice affords us a moment to reflect not only on the sacrifice of the 58,000 plus names inscribed on it, but also on all the active duty service members deployed all over the world. It also allows us an opportunity to consider the effects that war has had on our veterans and how we can help those who are most in need.”

The Wall is being brought to Venice in association with Veterans Foundation Inc, a 35 year-old non profit organization that produced the nationally televised “American Veteran Awards Show” and was influential in creating the first welcome home parades for Vietnam Veterans. About The Wall that Heals: The exhibition features a half-scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial that is permanently located Washington, D.C. Its main components are The Wall replica and the mobile Education Center. It is approximately 250 feet in length, and like the original Memorial is erected in a chevron-shape. The replica is constructed of powder-coated aluminum, supported by an aluminum frame, and is made up of 24 individual panels. The exterior sides of the trailer that carries The Wall That Heals open to become a mobile Education Center. Information cases display photos of service members whose names are found on The Wall, along with letters and memorabilia left at The Wall in D.C. The Museum also includes a map of Vietnam and a chronological overview of the conflict in Vietnam.

On Veterans Day 1996, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund (VVMF) unveiled the half-scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., designed to travel to communities throughout the United States. Since its dedication, The Wall That Heals has visited more than 400 cities and towns throughout the nation, spreading the Memorial’s healing legacy to millions.
