“For its second year, Toyota Financial Services (TFS) has declared April as Making Life Easier Month. During the month, TFS associates have planned and will conduct service activities nationwide in their local communities to support youth, the environment, and financial education. Many events are scheduled in conjunction with National Boys & Girls Club Week (April 7-13), National Volunteer Week (April 21-27), Financial Literacy Month, and Earth Month.
Launching this year is a new experience for TFS associates called Genchi Genbutsu in the Community.(Genchi Genbutsu is a Japanese term that means “go and see.”) Spreading to other TFS locations during April and throughout the year, this community event launches in Torrance, Calif. on Thursday, April 11 and involves taking up to 300 associates to six area Boys & Girls Clubs in Carson, Long Beach, San Pedro, South Bay, Venice, and Watts/Willowbrook. The purpose is to provide associates with a firsthand opportunity to “go and see” their local Boys & Girls Club to learn what they do and how they can help, either on their own or through TFS-supported programs like Diplomas to Degrees (d2D), a program now available at all Boys & Girls Clubs across the country.
The concept and timing of Genchi Genbutsu in the Community fits nicely with this year’s theme for National Boys & Girls Club Week of “Open the Door. Take the Tour.” It’s a way to help participants better understand what goes on in their local Clubs, the services they provide, and the impact they have on thousands of children every day. About Making Life Easier: Since 2007, through its “Making Life Easier” program, TFS has provided local Boys & Girls Club members, alumni, and staff with resources to help ensure that all youth have access to a quality education. TFS has provided $1.4 million in academic scholarships for nearly 400 students and supported thousands of middle and high school youth with mentorships, internships, and financial or career programs to help them become productive and caring adults. To expand on these efforts, Toyota announced its partnership with Boys & Girls Clubs of America in 2010 to develop Diplomas to Degrees (d2D) to support students graduating from both high-school and post-secondary education. The program enables TFS volunteers from Toyota offices nationwide to partner with their local Boys & Girls Clubs to implement engaging curriculum and mentor the participating college-bound teens. The program is now available to all Boys & Girls Clubs across the country.

BE A VOLUNTEER. MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
The Boys & Girls Club of Venice is always looking for enthusiastic, motivated, committed people who would like to be positive role models for the kids and teens who attend the Club. Our volunteers are the backbone of our organization’s operation. If you are interested in volunteering at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Venice, complete our volunteer application online or call Danielle Chi, Development Coordinator at 310-574-5054.
DONATE TO THE BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB OF VENICE!
Your contribution allows Boys & Girls Clubs of Venice keep the promise to our youth during their formative years when they need us most. While membership in our Club is only $100 annually per child, it costs our organization $1,500 to put one young person through our programs each year. Contributions by generous individuals, companies, organizations and foundations are an essential lifeline for providing promise to our youth. Click here for more info.
