New Year’s day on the beach in Venice is traditionally a super fun, energy packed, experience. Hundreds of bathing suit clad locals converge on the breakwater for swimming, socializing, photo ops, and more. Always in the crowd is Norkie the giant penguin, cheering on the competitors and participants in the 500 yard challenge swim and the 50 yard fun dip.
But this year there is no official event. Event organizers Southern California Aquatics (SCAQ) plan on hosting the Venice Penguin Swim in 2025. However, the beach is still open and all are welcome to jump in the water and start the new year with a huge dose of cool salt water invigoration!
Fun Fact: Venice Paparazzi covered the Penguin Swim official events from 2007-2017. So, if you were at one of these events, go find your photo in the gallery links below! Merry Christmas from the VP Team!
