Ubatuba Açaí has pulled up on 19th ave. and Ocean Front Walk and the Venice Boardwalk has leveled up.
That’s right, straight from Brazil, we have Daniela Demetrio and her fantastic team serving real deal authentic Brazilian acai bowls, complete with all the toppings you could want; granola, coconut, banana, almond butter, and many many more!
The bowls are fire, perfect for after a surf, to fuel up for a workout, or a healthy, anytime snack.
And there is a very cool mural on the wall at Ubatuba Açaí that is set up as a photo op. The mural depicts the acai berries journey from the Amazon to Venice. So come on by and be part of the story. Fun fact for all you jiu jitsu players out there: Uba Tuba’s first customer at their first store ever was the legendary Jean Jacque Machado, and he still comes in to this day!
Another fun fact: Uba Tuba means “many canoes” and it is a reference for the way the berries get delivered to the docks for sale. People shimmy up super tall palm trees and cut the berries, they then drop them on the jungle floor. Another person rakes up the berries, and puts them into a wicker basket, which is loaded onto a canoe that then heads up the river to be sold. It takes many canoes to make all the acai bowls, hence the name Uba Tuba.
And did you know that it was surfers visiting Brazil that fueled the spread of acai around the world? That’s right, one taste of this super unique berry treat and they were hooked, eventually fueling a global demand.
