Let’s get to know about Sticky Shaw!  Interview by Lauren Doyle.

How many years in Venice?

I’ve lived in Venice since 2020, right before Covid, But I’ve been hanging out in Venice for over 15 years.

Give us a brief bio of yourself:

I was born in Newport Beach CA in 1981, I have a learning disability which makes reading and writing very hard for me. I found my passion in art classes where there is no right or wrong answers. I’ve worked with action sports companies like Volcom, Vonzziper and Lib Tech snowboards doing art stuff.

Tell us about your art. Describe your style, and what influences it?

My art style is organized chaos — graffiti, punk, fashion, skateboarding, snowboarding, nature, and big cities like New York and Berlin.

How many years, and how did you get into it?

I started taking art seriously in 2003. I was asked to be in an amazing art show for a famous snowboarder Jeff Anderson who passed away. After that, the action sports industry started noticing my art. Thank you, JLA.

Biggest accomplishment or favorite show?

My biggest accomplishment was having my artwork on a Lib Tech snowboard, because I’m a snowboarder and it remains a top highlight. Also my first solo show in Laguna Beach. It was in 2012 and called Love Kills. I think I sold everything.

Tell us about some of your favorite pieces.

One of my favorite paintings is “Berlin Never Dies”. This painting was the inspiration of my cartoon called “Skeleton Steph”. The three original skeletons are based on my best friend Chris the drummer of Crystal Castles and this cool girl I dated named Stephanie. The background of this painting consists of everything I collected while I was in Berlin; a setlist from Hot Chip and The Damned Friends show flyers, beer labels, stickers, and posters .

What projects are you currently working on?

My biggest project is my cartoon called Skeleton Steph, I’ve been working on it for four years and am so lucky to work with amazing people like Greg Cipes, Pete Wentz, Izzy Arias, & Tracey Power.

Anything else that you want to share with our readers? Announcements, upcoming events, etc.

Venice Questions:

Describe Venice

Venice is wild. The whole world comes here, it’s a little part of one of the biggest cities (LA) where you can come see art freaks, food, surf, skating, the seagulls, and me! I sell my artwork in front of my house sometimes – on the boardwalk, between Clubhouse & Wavecrest.

What did you do for fun in Venice during Covid times?

Jumped in the ocean, rode my bike, played with my cat, and kissed my wife.

What is your craziest or fondest Venice experience?

Life in Venice is crazy. I don’t want to scare anybody off. There’s so much good energy here versus negative.

Anything else you want to share about yourself or Venice to the world? Fun facts or accomplishments.

My favorite restaurants on the westside are Plant Food & Wine (vegan), Little Prince, & Dudley Market (the freshest fish in town!) Favorite bar is Townhouse, right next to the best coffee Menotti’s. Get the Spanish latte with oat milk. 🙂

How can one fan and follow you?
