Overview of Programs:  Boys & Girls Club of Venice offers young people a range of fun and productive activities. The Club is open each day after school from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m. and 6:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. during the breaks. Research has shown that during this time of day, children are most vulnerable to gangs, violence and other risky behaviors.

A trained, caring staff implements proven youth development strategies and creates a stable, supportive and promising environment for children and teens ages 6 to 18. BGCV knows with an education, good health and job skills, our Club members can accomplish their dreams.

The Club’s provide diverse activities, that we call Core Programs, to meet the interests of all youth. These programs engage young people in activities with adults, peers and family members, enable them to develop self-esteem and provide them a solid platform to reach their full potential. The Core Programs developed and implemented in our Club are based on the physical, emotional, cultural and social needs and interests of the youth served.

Five Core Program Areas: 

• Character & Leadership Development
  Empower youth to become global citizens who support and influence their Club and community, sustain meaningful relationships with others. Develop a positive self-image and good character and respect their own and others’ cultural identities.

• Education & Career Development
  Enable youth to become proficient in basic educational disciplines, set goals, explore careers, prepare for employment and embrace technology to achieve success in a career.
• Health & Life Skills
  Develop young people’s capacity to engage in positive behaviors that nurture their own well-being, set personal goals and live successfully as self-sufficient adults.
• Arts & Cultural Enrichment
  Encourage youth to develop their creativity and cultural awareness through knowledge and appreciation of the visual arts and creative writing. BGCV also has a gallery and workspace for young artists.
• Sports, Fitness and Recreation
  Programs develop fitness, positive use of leisure time, skills for stress management, appreciation for the environment and social skills.

The Iben Family Support Center
The family support center is an on-site counseling program that aims to strengthen the family unit. All counseling services are provided free of charge to our youth members.

Outreach & Special Initiatives
These special programs focus on meeting significant, specific needs that have been identified by the Boys & Girls Club of Venice. Because their scope is broad, they relate to or complement several or all Core Program Areas.
