I am going to say this again, "I LOVE FACEBOOK!" Since joining this social network I have rekindled old relationships as far back as grade 5. Now a days it seems like everyone is on Facebook. Are you? If yes, join Venice Paparazzi's Facebook page by searcing Edizen Venice. Don't forget to join La Cabana's group on facebook.
ABOUT FACEBOOK: Insert from CNN website
Are you on Facebook yet? The site is up to 60 million users so far, with a projection of 200 million by the end of the year. If you're not on Facebook, here's how it works: you set up a profile page with details about yourself and then decide who gets to see it. Friends use their pages to share personal news, exchange photos, team up on political causes, or just play long-distance Scrabble. It can be a useful tool or an addictive waste of time. Either way, Facebook is having a dramatic impact on the World Wide Web and it's estimated to be worth $15 billion. A little history on La Cabana's Facebook page:
Loca Venice resident, Ryan Thompson unsolicitely started La Cabana's facebook page. He started it because he loves La Cabana. La Cabana owner Carlos L. Haro found this page, was stoked and said let's have party. So enjoy the following photos below.
About La Cabana:
Since 1963, La Cabaña in Venice, CA has been serving excellent Mexican Food - a genuine taste of Mexico. A señorita pats out thick hand-made tortillas on a brick-layered fireplace and a festive guitar trio takes you back to the pueblos of Mexico. Open until 3AM! While other restaurants are closing up around 10PM – La Cabana is just getting started!

04.29.09 MEET THE ROTARY CLUB OF VENICE. The mission of Rotary International, a worldwide association of Rotary clubs, is to provide service to others, to promote high ethical standards, and to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through its fellowship of business, professional, and community leaders. EVENT AT JAMES' BEACH. www.rotary.org.
A message from the Venice Rotary Club President Don Cultan,
Welcome to the Rotary Club of Venice. We have gone back to our roots. The Venice Club was chartered in l942, changed its name to Venice-Marina, and has now been reborn as the "New" Venice Rotary. What does this mean? It means that the membership recognizes that Venice is a community that is a unique entity, known worldwide as that eccentric part of Los Angeles with its own character. The "New" Venice Rotary is committted to serving that community. Venice began when dreamer, entrepreneur, developer Abbott Kinney returned from Italy and put his energy into "Venice of America." He created a town of canals, businesses, homes, planned it with an eye on high culture, opera, classical orchestras. It did not turn out quite as he had planned. Today it has its history firmly in place, is home to a diverse population, million dollar homes, the Boardwalk, hip boutiques, first class restaurants, young professionals, senior citizens, world class body builders, and the homeless, or near homeless living in aging motorhomes or vans. When our club partnered with other community activists for "Feed the Beach" on Thanksgiving Day, club members could see that much needs to be done yet in Venice. We are sure that among the more successful citizens of the community are many who in their daily lives practice "Service Above Self". So, let's find them, see who is interested in joining forces with the 1.2 million member Rotary International. We do not have to be told that there is strength in numbers. A good Rotarian is one who wants to help, to serve, and recognizes that she or he can use some assistance in doing good for others. The "New" Venice Rotary is now, also, a morning club. Busy professionals, successful business leaders, have a hard time carving several hours out of the middle of the day for lunch weekly. There are fewer excuses if we are gathering for breakfast at 7:30 A.M. So, folks, fellow Rotarians, the task in front of us is to find those potential Rotarians, invite them to breakfast, see if they fit. Let's work on recruiting the class of Spring '09. I will see you Thursday, bright and early at the Firehouse Restaurant and Bar--in the bar. - Don Cultan.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Welcome to the Rotary Club of Venice!
Rotary Club of Venice meets every Thursdays at 7:30 AM at The Firehouse Restaurant 213 Rose Ave. Venice, CA 90291
The Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:
FIRST. The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;
SECOND. High ethical standards in business and professions, the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations, and the dignifying of each Rotarian's occupation as an opportunity to serve society;
THIRD. The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian's personal, business, and community life;
FOURTH. The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.
Avenues of Service. Based on the Object of Rotary, the Avenues of Service are Rotary’s philosophical cornerstone and the foundation on which club activity is based:
Club Service focuses on strengthening fellowship and ensuring the effective functioning of the club.
Vocational Service encourages Rotarians to serve others through their vocations and to practice high ethical standards.
Community Service covers the projects and activities the club undertakes to improve life in its community.
International Service encompasses actions taken to expand Rotary’s humanitarian reach around the globe and to promote world understanding and peace.
The Four-Way Test:
The test, which has been translated into more than 100 languages, asks the following questions:
Of the things we think, say or do Is it the TRUTH? Is it FAIR to all concerned? Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS? Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
The mission of Rotary International, a worldwide association of Rotary clubs, is to provide service to others, to promote high ethical standards, and to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through its fellowship of business, professional, and community leaders.

April 17th FRIDAYS ON WESTMINSTER SQUARE. Brought to you by James and Nina Merced of the Fruit Gallery. Click on the arrow below to view other recent events covered.
On Firday The Fruit Gallery presented "A Night on Westminster.” Unfortunately, when I arrived at 8:00 p.m. the event was shut down. The event was scheduled for 6:00-10:00 p.m. I thought if I arrived at 8:00 p.m. the event would be hopping. I was wrong. I caught the tail end of it. This is what happened. The band started playing at 7:00 p.m. and at 7:05 the cops came and shut it down. Unfortuantely there were no permits so the event couldn't proceed on. Too bad for everyone.
The intent was for the neighborhood to mix, mingle, enjoy live music and take advantage of the awsome Westminster Square Food Court staying open late and offering free snacks. Oh well, it was a good try Nina , James and Westminster Square. Don't give up. If you need support from the community we are there for you. We look forward to next month's event. Location: Westminster Avenue (Between Speedway and Ocean Front Walk)
Lastly thanks to Zelda's Corner Deli for the bag of world famous mini-donuts. They were delicious. Mini donuts made fresh to order while you watch. I believe Zelda's Court is coming up on anniversary. Please let us know the date. Thanks again. 9 Westminster Ave.
Visit James and Nina Merced at the Fruit Gallery. Fruit Gallery serves up fresh juices and smoothies, along with salads, wraps and a variety of healthful bottled drinks (think Kombucha) for take-out

About Jimmy and Charlotte: Charlotte thanks for giving me a run down on the history of you two, but sadly I completely forgot our conversation. I think I was fixated on the cookies in the kitchen. One obvious thing for sure, is that you guys are the happiest married couple that I know. What I do remember, is that you two lived at 15 Rose for 20 years , saved for 15 years and then invested in 15 Rose. Is that about right? One thing is for sure, you two will be completely missed in Venice. Local celebraties spotted at this party include: Joey Tran, Tanya, Jt, Bradford, Masao, Michelle, Lara, the tree man, Eric, New Angel Media crew and more.How we met Jimmy and Charlotte: Alex and I met Jimmy and Charlotte in October 2000. We were 15 Rose's first tenant's in the newly remodeled weekly rentals, in which we stayed for 9 months. Now 9 years later we sadly watch as Jimmy and Charlotte migrate down to El Segundo.
Brief History of 15 Rose Aveand Venice Beach. (insert taken from their website)
This historic building was built in 1908 by Abbot Kinney*, the founder of Venice Beach. The Venice Rose Hotel was turned into a hotel in the 1920's and in the 1950's, it was purchased by Helen Neal, who raised her two sons, Tom and Dick, on the property. *Abbot Kinney, a wealthy tobacco mogul, world-traveler and co-owner of Ocean Park Casino and Resort, envisioned a resort town culturally reminiscent of Venice. He called it "Venice of America" complete with canals, gondolas, amusement piers, hotels, and beautiful Venetian buildings. His dream of "Coney Island of the Pacific" was realized on July 4, 1905 when he transformed a deteriorating marshland west of Los Angeles into an amazing miniature version of Venice, Italy with 16 miles of canals. In 1929, most of the canals were filled in to accommodated the new automobile boom. In 1994, the City of Los Angeles refurbished the six remaining canals to their original condition. Today the canals are home to some of L.A.'s most beautiful homes and Venice Beach, which is the 2nd most popular Southern California destination (Disneyland being #1)

The next morning at the Brickhouse for breakfast. Welcome back Star! Click on the arrow below to view other recent events..
I joined this beach cruising, beer drinking and bikini clad bunch at the James' Beach about 6:30 p.m. Thanks Michael for my tasty no salt on the rocks cool margarita. Here are just a few people I snapped photos of... of course the beautiful Star, make up artist Victoria, Activision's red head beauty Sophie, bubbly and smiling Sandy, Venice Original's Kaycee, the Squid crew and more. Next stop, the Washington Square. Kaycee and I went to Cabo Cantina while the rest of the crew went to the Terrace. I took advantage of the two for one margarita deal. Yikes not a good idea. Time went by and we got the call. Next stop the Canal Club. Yikes I think I am already drunk by this time. At the Canal Club, Bret the artist bought me my 4th margarita of the night. Again, I snapped shots. Next stop the Townhouse. Really by now, I have no idea what happened next. One second I am at the Townhouse snapping pics of DJ Bagel and the next I am at home. No more margaritas for me. Well looking at the pics now, it looks like I had a great time. Welcome back Star.
